When the founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, was asked if Christian Scientists had a religious creed, she responded: “They have not, if by that term is meant doctrinal beliefs” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, pp. 496–497). However, she outlined the essential key points of Christian Science rooted in the Bible:
Tenets of Christian Science
1. As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life.
2. We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God. We acknowledge His Son, one Christ;
the Holy Ghost or divine Comforter; and man in God's image and likeness.
3. We acknowledge God's forgiveness of sin in the destruction of sin and the spiritual understanding
that casts out evil as unreal. But the belief in sin is punished so long as the belief lasts.
4. We acknowledge Jesus' atonement as the evidence of divine, efficacious Love, unfolding man's
unity with God through Christ Jesus the Way-shower; and we acknowledge that man is saved
through Christ, through Truth, Life, and Love as demonstrated by the Galilean Prophet in healing the
sick and overcoming sin and death.
5. We acknowledge that the crucifixion of Jesus and his resurrection served to uplift faith to
understand eternal Life, even the allness of Soul, Spirit, and the nothingness of matter.
6. And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ
Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just, and pure.

How is it Christian and Science?
Christian Science and its healing ministry rests on the affirmation from the Bible that “God is love” (I John 4:16). Those who practice it strive to live the bold, compassionate, pure, generous love that Christ Jesus embodied and taught in his Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7). This is the heart of its Christianity.
Christian Science is also a science because God is understood to be unchanging Love—the infinite Principle that is constant, universal, inclusive, eternal, the only true power and source of all good. It explains the spiritual laws of Love that enabled Jesus to heal sickness and sin. This divine Science also answers our fundamental questions about evil, reality, and eternal life. And as the word science implies, it is reliable, consistent, and provable, bringing healing to individuals and humanity through a deeper understanding of God.
Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. - Christ Jesus
We are a Christian church based on the theology Christ Jesus taught and demonstrated. Our religious tenets are printed below.
In 1866 Mary Baker Eddydiscovered the laws of God which underlie the words and works of Christ Jesus and named her discovery Christian Science. She thoroughly studied the Bible to elucidate her discovery before writing our denominational textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. The Bible and our textbook is our Pastor.
You are welcome at our worship services on Sundays and Thanksgiving Day, and Wednesday testimony meetings.
Our Sunday School is for those up to the age of 20. Supervised child care is provided during all of our services. Our public Reading Room at 412 Main Street in the Main Street Plaza is a great place for prayer and Bible research.
About Lectures Our church regularly sponsors public lectures. While the subjects vary to meet the specific interests and needs of the community, each lecture describes the practical application of Christian Science that results in healing -- lives improved physically, morally, and spiritually. All lecturers are members of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship.
Lecture Requests Lectures have been customized to address groups at nursing homes, prisons, shopping malls, college classrooms as well as social workers, law enforcement personnel, business men and women, and community volunteers. If you would like a lecturer to speak to your group, call the Clerk at 248.652.3155. We will be glad to work with you to meet your needs.
